How do I setup my iPhone to receive AKO email?

Configuration and troubleshooting support for handheld devices is only available on a limited basis from the AKO/DKO Helpdesk; however, these devices may be used with your AKO/DKO email and IM service.

To configure your handheld device, you may need to refer to the device vendor’s instructions. For your convenience we are providing the following information (written specifically for the 3G version):

To configure your iPhone to send and receive AKO/DKO email, follow the steps below**:

1.Tap the ‘Settings’ icon on the Home Screen.

2.From the Settings Menu, tap ‘Mail, Contacts, Calendars’.

3.From the Mail Menu, tap ‘Add Account…’.

4.Select ‘Other’ from the list of options.

5.Select ‘Add Mail Account’.

6.Enter the ‘Name’ (This is your display name).

7.Enter the ‘Address’ (This is your AKO email address).

8.Enter your ‘Password’ (This is your AKO password).

9.Enter the ‘Description’ (This is a descriptive name for the account, i.e. AKO).

10.Click the ‘Next’ button at the top right of the screen.

11.Your iPhone will now attempt to connect to the mail servers. Wait a minute or so until the Account Info window appears. Click Next at the top right of the screen.

12.At the IMAP screen, make sure the Mail toggle button is turned ON. Click Save.

New devices will auto-configure your mail servers, but if you are prompted to enter your incoming or outgoing mail servers, use the following information to do so:

13.’Incoming Mail Server’ details:

  • · Host Name: imap.us.army.mil
  • · User Name:Your AKO/DKO User ID
  • · Password: Your AKO/DKO Password

14.’Outgoing Mail Server’ details:

  • · Host Name: mailrouter.us.army.mil
  • · User Name:Your AKO/DKO User ID
  • · Password: Your AKO/DKO Password

Your AKO/DKO mail is now configured. Click the Home button to return to the Home Screen. From the Home Screen, click the ‘Mail’ icon and select the account you just created to download your folders and email to your iPhone.

NOTE: If the mail folders in your account are still empty upon opening the Mail app, wait a minute or so for the app to connect to the servers and populate them on your phone. If the app’s connection with the mail servers happens to time out, reopen the Mail app and try connecting to the servers again. If you still cannot access your AKO mail on your iPhone, please contact gomobile.user.inquiries@us.army.mil for further assistance.
